Udaipur - City of Lakes: Part 2

Click here to read Part 1 of this post if you haven't already.

The next morning, we were off to explore the City Palace, which was built over the course of 400 years by several different Rajasthani kings.

At the front gate, Angela became a celebrity as dozens of young Indians tried to take their picture with her. There were so many that eventually she had to decline taking any more photos, or we'd never get to see the palace!
Near the entrance to the palace is a display showcasing the glasses worn by Ben Kingsley in the 1982 film, Gandhi.
The palace provided some beautiful views over the city.
In the distance, overlooking the city is the Monsoon Palace, built high in the mountains for the royals to seek refuge from the heavy rains during summer. Scenes from the James Bond film Octopussy were filmed there, as well as on Lake Pichola.

The Taj Lake Palace.

From the palace we headed down to Lake Pichola for a boat ride.
Taking a boat ride on Lake Pichola has to be one of the most essential things to do in Udaipur. We caught so many great views of the ornate architecture surrounding the reflective water.

We made a brief stop at Jag Mandir, a garden palace floating in the lake.

Jag Mandir was built as a summer resort and pleasure palace for holding parties.

After leaving Jag Mandir we returned to our hotel, relaxing for the rest of the day. Udaipur was a beautiful place and we would have liked to stay an extra day to soak it in more. But we were on a busy schedule, and tomorrow we would be returning to Rajasthan's deserts, this time to visit Pushkar, a land of camels and bazaars.
